Easy-to-use touch screen kiosks are being deployed across the ‘City of Brotherly Love’

Moorestown, NJ – The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) has announced its partnership with Flowbird Group to roll out the company’s full color, touch-screen pay-by-plate parking kiosks. Flowbird’s CWT smart kiosk uses license plate technology to provide parkers with a flexible and friendly user experience. The advanced parking management system will replace 1,110 existing parking kiosks in Philadelphia’s downtown core, and will eventually replace 8,416 single-space coin operated meters in other parts of the City.

Installation of the new pay-by-plate parking kiosks started in Center City on October 15th, 2019.  Unlike the current kiosks, the new system does not require a customer to display a receipt on their dashboard. Parkers have the option of printing a receipt to keep for their records or they can receive a text message,  providing more convenience to the users while improving sustainability.  Payment is accepted in coins, credit or debit card and the new system seamlessly integrates with the PPA enforcement eco-system.

“The PPA has always embraced the use of innovative technology to improve efficiency and the overall parking experience and quality of life for Philadelphia’s residents and visitors. The key to our new kiosks is remembering your license plate number,” said PPA Executive Director, Scott Petri, during an October 8th press conference.

The PPA’s switch to Flowbird’s pay-by-plate system provides customers more flexibility when they park on City streets. Unlike the old parking meters, the kiosks don’t correspond to any specific parking space, meaning motorists may pay for time at one kiosk and park anywhere in the city. Likewise, they can add time to their parking spot from any pay-by-plate kiosk in the City.

With all kiosks wirelessly communicating to Flowbird’s analytics platform, the City will not only be able to analyze parking activity trends, but it will also be able to streamline operations.  This leads to high uptime and gives parkers a system it can trust.

“We are extremely pleased and proud that our technology is being implemented through the City of Philadelphia,” said Benoit Reliquet, President Flowbird North America.  “Our Moorestown, NJ office is located only a few minutes from downtown, making this a stepping stone project within our organization and beyond.”

The first 50 kiosks installed with go through a 30-day testing period.  Following a successful test phase, the remainder of the kiosks will be progressively phased in, with an expected project completion by middle of next year.

Currently, Flowbird supports over 40,000 parking pay stations for over 600 customers throughout the U.S.  This project allows the company to expand its presence throughout the world’s most technologically advanced cities, including Barcelona, Chicago, New York, and Paris.

Tourism community to soon see congestion relief and infrastructure improvements

Moorestown, NJ – The Town of Jerome, Arizona, has partnered with Flowbird Group to launch a new pay-by-plate parking system to manage and support its long-term economic vitality. On July 25th, Jerome Town Council voted unanimously to procure Flowbird’s Strada smart pay stations and implement Flowbird’s mobile parking app as a means for raising infrastructure funds and expand public parking.

In addition to raising funds, council members identified the need for a more organized parking space. The Town of Jerome, a small tourism community, has been expanding rapidly in the last 5 years. Visitor parking began impinging upon neighborhood streets, generally intended for residents to park near their homes. The solution of Flowbird pay stations and the mobile app will bring flexible and dynamic management of parking rights and fees.

Council Members remarked on their long, exhaustive search for the right parking solution for Jerome, ultimately selecting Flowbird at the suggestion of Chief Allen Muma who reviewed Flowbird’s success in Flagstaff, AZ and Grand Rapids, MI. Flagstaff’s demanding parking system, in particular, consists of 100 Flowbird Strada pay stations and has had great success with Flowbird’s mobile payment app.

Jerome’s adoption of the Strada pay stations will bring modernization and ease-of-use to visiting and residential motorists. The pay stations are solar-powered and user-friendly with a large color display screen and customized interface. The entire system will be tailored to the town’s specific needs, functioning in pay-by-plate mode to accommodate special parking rates, providing printed receipts for motorists, and enforced by Jerome’s local police.

The exact locations of the new kiosks will be determined in the coming weeks. The cost to park has been set at $3.00 for up to four hours, or $5.00 to park all day. Fees will be in effect between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. Parking will remain free throughout parts of Main Street and the Town’s large parking lot that offers free shuttles to and from downtown on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Police Chief Allen Muma plans to follow suit with Flagstaff’s ‘friendly manner’ of rolling out the new pay stations, starting out first with warnings and keeping track of system abusers.

Currently, Flowbird supports over 40,000 parking pay stations for 600 customers throughout the U.S.  This project allows the company to expand its presence in the Southwest where, in addition to Flagstaff, it currently partners with clients such as the City of Las Vegas (NV), Town of Springdale (UT), City of Santa Fe (NM), and the University of New Mexico.

Shoppers and beach-goers will soon have more parking availability

Moorestown, New Jersey – The City of Treasure Island, FL, has voted to add 42 metered parking spaces to the island’s busy beach-front lots. City commissioners unanimously voted to expand their contract with Flowbird group, the world’s leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions, to manage these spaces using the CWT Color Touch kiosks.

The City first expanded their paid parking spaces in 2017 when a need for more regulated parking was apparent. This expansion is now the second phase to open up parking accessibility in 4 prime locations using the CWT kiosks in pay-by-space mode.

“Staff has noted some general and unique situations at these four locations that warrant adding metered parking at this time,” said Amy Davis, finance director and assistant city manager. For instance, the popular restaurant, Gator’s Café, has a large unmetered parking lot, prompting non-customer to park and walk to other businesses to avoid paying for parking.

The new kiosks have a user-friendly design with descriptive messages and enhanced visibility in sunlight. The kiosks function off of solar-powered panels and feature a large full-color touch screen interface similar to a tablet. Motorists simply type in their parking space number, choose their parking duration, and use a credit card, coins, or the City’s convenient mobile app to pay.

Davis explains that adding additional parking spaces with new kiosks, “should adequately redistribute peak parking and minimize public safety and liability concerns.”

Currently, Flowbird supports over 40,000 parking pay stations for 600 customers throughout the U.S.   In addition to Treasure Island, Flowbird systems can be found in many cities along Florida’s Gulf Coast including Clearwater, Madeira Beach, Sarasota, and St. Pete Beach.

California Shopping District Helps Ease Employee and Customer Parking Shortage

August 6th, 2019

The City of Paso Robles Partners with Flowbird to Implement Smart Parking System

Moorestown, New Jersey -- The City of Paso Robles, California has partnered with Flowbird Group, the world’s leader in curbside management and urban mobility solutions, to launch a comprehensive plate-based parking system in the downtown business district. The system is designed to open up on-street parking spaces for retail and restaurant customers, while encouraging local employees to park in off-street lots.

The Flowbird system, consisting of kiosks, an easy-to-use mobile parking app, along with electronic validations and permitting, comes as a solution to the city’s ongoing parking shortage issues. The main issue the city faces is business employees taking up prime parking spots meant for customers – an issue common in many local shopping districts. Powered by Flowbird’s flexible permitting solution, the city has introduced a $5 per month parking program offered exclusively for business employees. The ‘Downtown Employee Parking Permit Program’ reserves parking spaces for permit holders in 5 public parking lots downtown, encouraging employees to leave prime parking spaces available for customers, while saving on per-day parking costs.

The implementation of Flowbird’s pay-by-plate system will provide a better parking flow, encouraging those who can manage a short walk from an off-street lot to leave prime paid parking spaces open in front of businesses. Visitors who prefer to park in the main on-street business district may pay at a nearby CWT parking kiosk or through the WayToPark mobile app. While users can choose to get a printed receipt from the kiosk, Flowbird’s green solution offers a text receipt option. With the WayToPark app, users get a digital receipt and can extend their parking right from their mobile device.

Regardless of whether the patron pays at a kiosk or through the mobile app, each license plate number receives 2 hours of free parking per day. The pay-by-plate system keeps track of purchased time on each plate and flags enforcement through an LPR solution, provided by Vigilant Solutions, if a car is out of compliance. This enhanced management system also allows the city to implement a merchant validation program, enabling customers downtown to validate parking with participating businesses, while encouraging businesses to use the validation process as a way to help build customer service and loyalty.

“This new paid parking system has been customized for the City of Paso Robles and utilizes our powerful parking rights management system,” said Benoit Reliquet, President of Flowbird North America.  “Our goal was to provide the City with a flexible way to manage various parking use cases, while giving end users a positive experience.”

Prior to the launch of paid parking, which is scheduled to start on August 14, 2019, there will be a practice period where visitors can begin to use the pay stations. Parking will remain free during this time. The intention of the practice period is to allow the public to get familiar with the technology. During this time, the city will be offering training sessions and provide information about the upcoming merchant validation program, the Downtown Employee Parking Permit Program, and the new mobile application, WayToPark.

Currently, Flowbird supports over 40,000 parking pay stations for 600 customers throughout the U.S.  This project allows the company to continue its rapid expansion across California, where cities such as Los Angeles, Pasadena, Sacramento, and Ventura utilize Flowbird systems.
